A tower is an image with political and social associations. A tower is a building that rises above other buildings or its surroundings: it is a symbol of power and control. From a distance ‘Tower V&VI’ are site-specific light sculptures that could be everyday objects with a social function. But on closer inspection, these towers are misplaced at that location. One of the towers is white with light coming from within. The other tower is black without light: a dark emptiness that lacks the possibility of observation. Located next to a existing fence surrounding some kind of wasteland in the middle of the city of Amsterdam, the presence of these two towers made the area of extraordinary interest.
